C8 Gets Modern Electrical System

The Corvette has always been about superior performance at a budget price. So, it is understandable that most of the press has been about the 0-60 in under 3 seconds and a price point of under $60,000. Well there is a lot more to the new C8 than these numbers. One of these items is the total redesign of the electrical system; what GM calls the Global B electrical architecture.

During the reveal, chief engineer Tadge Juechter listed the Global B as one of the key factors contributing to reducing the production cost of the C8. As with all the items in a car, the more places you can use the same part, the cheaper you can get it, and the Global B will end up in almost every GM vehicle by 2023. Hence Chevrolet did not have to spend tons of money to develop a new system for just the C8.

At first glance, you may ask what is so complicated about a cars electrical system? But in reality, today’s cars have multiple computers and are even getting connected to the internet for things like traffic reports, system diagnostics and infotainment systems. Also like your computer or phone, they will need updates to their systems and great cyber security. This is what Global B is about.
